John Betts on Jungian Psychology
The 10th in John Betts podcast series on Jungian Psychology is reviewed and is freely available here. In this episode he goes through the process of analysing a dream which is broken down into a number of stages. He gives the example of a 52-year old divorced lady who’s mother has dementia and who has dreamt about her childhood.
In the first stage he advises the listener to read the dream aloud. In the second stage he advises the dreamer to examine their feelings during this time – the ‘dream affect’ and the therapist to examine their feelings during this time also. In the third stage, the dreamer is asked to examine their feelings on waking, writing about and reflecting on the dream. In the fourth stage the dreamer must identify the conscious attitude that the dream is responding to. He refers to this as the basic structure needed for the analysis. The 5th stage involves identifying associations using techniques such as amplification discussed in a previous episode of the series. Betts then returns to the example above and works through each of these stages with reference to the example.
In the example above, Betts takes us through a systematic analysis using the stages outlined above. We are able to see theĀ relevant message that the dream conveys and are left to consider theĀ remarkable processes that arrive at this message. Betts narration is clear and the episode like others in the series is easily accessible.
Steps To Treatment (STT)
STT = Steps To Treatment. An estimate of the number of steps between the results and translation into practice i.e. treatment. This is an opinion.
