Podcast Review: Lets Respect – Delirium

There is a really good podcast on Delirium at the National Mental Health Unit Development Unit. Professor Alisdair McLullich is a geriatrician who informs the audience about important aspects of delirium. The picture and audio quality are very good and the interviewer and Professor McLullich produce an engaging and very informative video. He emphasise the large proportion of patients with delirium according to the population in question – particularly high in acute older adult wards and ITU. The issues of diagnosis, risk of subsequent or concurrent dementia and quality indicators for management are all important areas that are highlighted here and this video could be usefully considered by those organising teaching in relevant areas.

  1. […] The Lets Respect Project was set up to support mental healthcare for older adults in the general hospital setting. In the general hospital setting delirium, depression and dementia in older adults can play a significant role in morbidity. The team have produced this video (see here) on their YouTube channel. At just under 7 minutes, it’s a useful video which explains each of the above succinctly and gives some simple practical pointers to management. A lot of effort has been put in to this to ensure the music, photography and text complement each other and send a clear message. The Lets Respect website is found within the Mental Health Policy Development Unit website here and has a number of other helpful resources (e.g see review here). […]
