Sigmund Freud’s contributions to Psychiatry have been very significant. Starting in his career as a neurologist, he trained under the renowned neurologist Charcot who introduced him to hypnosis. He developed his own psychoanalytic theory to explain the mind and introduced this model in the classic ‘Interpretation of Dreams’ (Die Traumdeutung). Freud continued to develop his psychoanalytic theory throughout his life and was a prodigious and a writer who has had a profound cultural influence.
