The subventricular zone was mentioned in the previous post about genes related to expansion of the brain.
The subventricular zone is a zone which includes stem cells that can produce cells in the brain. The subventricular zone exists in the embryo and also persists into adulthood in humans, retaining the capacity to produce further cells.
The subventricular zone contrasts with the ventricular zone which also generates cells in the brain and is transient in nature.
