The Brain Hypometabolism Hypothesis Part 21: Glucose as a Signalling Molecule

Professors Bernard Thorens and Mike Mueckler have written a 2010 review titled ‘Glucose Transporters in the 21st Century‘.

In their paper they note that Glucose not just a source of energy but is also a signalling molecule. Thus they state that Glucose influences various processes including

(a) The activity of neurons that regulate Glucose (e.g. see this paper)

(b) Gene transcription

(c) Enzyme activity

PMD Health Information Exchange

The pMD® YouTube channel features a video on the pMD DATA EXCHANGE (TM).  The amusing back story in the video is that transfer of health information has been happening for a very long time – only in paper format. The possibilities for exchange of information using digital data is transformative – the point of Health Information Exchanges.
